Back in May of '83 I bought my favorite guitar, a Yamaha SHB-400, for $270.63 which was a good chunk of change back then. I recently had it appraised at right around a thousand dollars, but I wouldn't sell it for twice that. It's been a wonderful guitar, lasted me through 3 different bands, and countless hours of solo time.
The only problem was that it's not a Gibson Les Paul. I did, at one time, own a genuine Gibson SG, but was buying it on the time plan, and the band folded, so I brought the guitar back. I still wanted a LP, just couldn't afford one. I've looked at used ones, and various copies including the Epiphones, but I still could just not justify spending the cash on something that would be a toy for all intents and purposes.
So, when I found this beauty on Ebay and did some digging, I just HAD to bid on it, and by cracky, I WON THE BID!!! The photos just don't do it justice, and it will be a while before you get to hear the gorgeous sound this baby puts out. (after all, it's cycling season!) You'll just have to take my word for it, the sound is incredible for the amount of money I paid for it. This guitar was made in April 2000, and I don't know how the lady I bought it from came about it, or why it never got sold and played before now, but I'm sure glad it came to live with me!
Now I need another guitar strap, and a decent case for it. Here are some pics, and you might recognize the "models" since they insist on helping me with pretty much everything I do. :)
